Parallels between Half-Life 2 and the novel “1984”

Welcome, welcome to glorious Oceania, we chose it for you. Turn on your TV screens, prepare a glass of gin and remember Big Brother is watching you…
Today we will talk about the similarities between the 1984 book by George Ourell and the game Half-Life 2

I recently read George Ourell’s book 1984 and was impressed and decided to replay Half-Life 2. It turned out that the game had a lot of similarities with the book; the developers were clearly inspired by this novel.

Let’s start from the beginning, with awakening. The same g-man stands in front of us. Here I can draw a parallel for which I may be judged BUT G-man is a little like O’Brien. You’ll probably ask, "How are they similar??"I’ll give you the answer. They are similar in uncertainty, that is, in that it is not completely clear whether they are friends or enemies. Every time you cannot decide how they treat you, and even when strange and terrible things happen, you still cannot tell whether they are enemies. Of course, with O’Brien it’s more obvious (and beware of spoilers here) he directly betrays the main character. He tortures him in order to “cure” him, so that he begins to love the party and big brother. But the main character Winston Smith still treats him in a friendly manner. Unlike O’Brien, G-MAN does not directly interfere with the hero, but after the Vortigaunts interfere with him, suspicions begin to arise towards him.It is still not clear whether he is a friend, because because of him, a cascading resonance occurred that sent the planet into chaos.

Let’s continue. After meeting the g-man you, https://sisalcasino.co.uk/ Gordon Freeman finds himself on a train with several passengers. All passengers are dressed in the same blue overalls from the book, then it turns out that all ordinary citizens are dressed in blue overalls. This is one of the most obvious parallels. Next, GG gets off the train and finds himself at the station (where else??). And he sees a huge TV screen on the wall from which Wallace Brin is broadcasting, just like his older (big) brother in 1984.There are scanners flying around that take pictures of all citizens. Civil defense can be seen beating citizens. Behind the fence you can see a vortigaunt cleaning the floors just like “PROOOL”.

We can listen to the conversations of citizens who complain about life, about the fact that people are disappearing, about the fact that something is being mixed into the water. Then we are grabbed by the Civil Defense and we see how people are beaten and tortured and there is immediately a parallel with the Ministry of Love and the Thought Police. Next, our GG ends up in a residential building where citizens are detained and then they pursue Gordon.

Soon in the plot we see how citizens are bombed with bombs, the same thing the party did in “1984”.Next we find ourselves in a city that was completely bombed and everyone became zombies.

Then Gordon, in a place with resistance (by the way, there was no resistance in the book), storms the Nova Prospekt prison, which is almost a direct parallel to the mine.love, here and there they torture and torment people, they also redirect people to their side with the help of torture and implants.

Next, Gordon ended up in the citadel, where the main man of all Russia, Wallace Bryn, sits. The direct parallel to the citadel is the pyramid of mines.truth in the novel 1984.It is also the most important and crime-free building in the city. It is the brain of the whole city.

There are a few more parallels to the novel in the game, but these parallels are not that important.

Thank you for reading, this is my first work of this kind and I will ask you to point out all my mistakes in the comments. And most importantly, remember Big Brother is watching you.
